Employment Type: Full-Time/Hourly – Night shift (7:00p – 5:30a - Sunday to Wednesday)

The lead is responsible for overseeing all post-casting operations including shakeout, knock-off, shot blasting, inspection, and grinding. This role ensures Farrar castings meet all quality standards while maintaining safe, efficient, and consistent production. The cleaning room lead provides hands-on leadership, directs daily activities, and drives continuous improvement across cleaning room processes.

Farrar Corporation is looking for a skilled cleaning room lead. The lead is responsible for overseeing all post-casting operations including shakeout, knock-off, shot blasting, inspection, and grinding. This role ensures Farrar castings meet all quality standards while maintaining safe, efficient, and consistent production. The cleaning room lead provides hands-on leadership, directs daily activities, and drives continuous improvement across cleaning room processes.
Responsibilities
- Lead and direct cleaning room personnel across all operations including shakeout, knockoff, shot blasting, inspection and grinding
- Coordinate daily workflow to meet production schedules and shipping requirements
- Ensure all castings meet quality specifications before release to next operations or shipment
- Train, coach, and develop team members on proper techniques, safety practices, and quality standards
- Monitor productivity and identify opportunities to improve throughput and reduce bottlenecks
- Maintain and enforce all safety standards, including PPE and equipment operation
- Setup and adjust programs on Sinto Barinders
- Ensure proper operation and basic maintenance of equipment including Hydraulic Wedges, Shot Blast machine, SNAG grinders, and Sinto Barinders
- Troubleshoot process or equipment issues and escalate when necessary
- Work closely with Production, Quality, and Engineering teams to:
- Address casting defects
- Implement corrective actions
- Improve overall casting quality and consistency
- Maintain organization and housekeeping standards in the cleaning room
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- 3–5+ years of foundry experience, preferably in ductile iron
- Prior leadership or supervisory experience preferred
- Strong knowledge of:
- Grinding practices and standards
- Shot blasting operations
- Casting defects and inspection methods
- Experience with automated grinding systems, including Sinto Barinders, strongly preferred
- Ability to read and interpret work instructions, prints, and quality standards
